SUSTAINABILITY

A CORE BUSINESS VALUE

At Pure Fiji, sustainability is at the core of our business values. We are dedicated to implementing environmentally friendly practices throughout our manufacturing processes and reducing our carbon footprint. Our commitment to sustainability encompasses various aspects of our operations, including sourcing, processing, infrastructure, and packaging.

Here are some of the key sustainability initiatives that Pure Fiji has implemented:

Wild-Harvesting Botanical Ingredients

We source our botanical ingredients, including a blend of seed oils, through wild-harvesting practices. This sustainable approach eliminates the need for energy-dependent irrigation and fertilization methods, significantly reducing the negative impact on the plants and their environment. By reducing the energy-intensive aspects of our production process, we effectively lower our carbon footprint. Nuts/Seeds are also collected by hand.

Minimal Processing of Raw Ingredients

Many of our raw ingredients undergo minimal processing. Hand-operated cold- pressing of seeds into oil is a common method used, which helps preserve the natural properties of the ingredients while requiring less energy-intensive processes. Additionally, we utilize passive solar dryers for other processing needs, further reducing the carbon impact on the environment.

Sustainable Infrastructure

We recognize the impact of infrastructure on the environment, and to minimize it, we construct support structures for our rural suppliers using locally sourced, environmentally low-impact materials. For instance, buildings are often constructed with plaited sago palm roofing, creating bright, airy, and cool spaces that eliminate the need for artificial lighting and ventilation.

To reduce dependency on non-renewable energy sources, some of our suppliers run generators and machinery on natural, unrefined coconut oil, a sustainable and renewable energy option.

Community Support

Pure Fiji actively supports seven rural communities from which we source our raw materials. We have assisted these communities in building schools, libraries, village stores, and purchasing water tanks. Additionally, we offer scholarships from school to tertiary education, empowering these communities for a brighter future.

Recycling and Waste Management

By-products from coconut husks and shell material from oil-bearing nuts are recycled as mulch and fertilizer. Green waste is composted and used in our organic spa garden. This approach helps reduce waste and supports our commitment to sustainable practices.

Energy-Efficient Factory and Spa Operations

Our spa operations are designed with sustainability in mind. Solariums are used to dry spa linens and uniforms, while ivy grown on buildings helps to keep them cool naturally. We also employ waterless and cold formulations where possible to reduce water and energy consumption.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

We prioritize the use of metal or glass packaging where appropriate to minimize single-use plastic and its impact on the environment.

Pure Fiji Spa

At the Pure Fiji Spa, we embrace eco-friendly practices. All spa linens are washed with care using Pure Fiji soap flakes made from offcuts. To reduce energy consumption, linens are air-dried in our solarium or on a clothesline. Our products are made with sustainably sourced ingredients from local communites and are gray water safe. Herbs for guest teas are grown in our spa garden, and leaves for herbal presses are dried on-site and wrapped into cotton presses. Any green waste is composted onsite. Our product is dispensed into eco-friendly coconut bowls. We proudly achieve 99% waste reduction, passionately embracing sustainability for a greener future.

Handmade Paper

We use handmade paper from the Namosi highlands to wrap our soap products and create beautiful covers for spa certificates. This promotes traditional craftsmanship while supporting local artisans and reducing the use of conventional paper products.

Gray Water Safe Products

Our products are designed to be gray water safe, ensuring that they do not harm the environment when used and disposed of responsibly.

Dispensers for Amenities in Resorts

As part of our sustainability initiatives, Pure Fiji actively encourages resorts to adopt the use of dispensers for guest amenities. By implementing dispenser systems for items like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, we aim to significantly reduce the consumption of single-use plastics. This approach not only minimizes plastic waste but also promotes a more eco-friendly and convenient guest experience.

Reef-Friendly Sunblock Concentrates in Eco-Friendly Packaging

Pure Fiji offers reef-friendly sunblock concentrates in metal packaging, furthering our commitment to sustainability and reducing plastic waste to protect marine ecosystems. This is also SPF and dermatologically tested to ensure customers are protected.

At Pure Fiji, we foster an eco-conscious approach to skincare and spa experiences, embracing sustainability in every aspect of our business.
